Social Program

The social program will include the get-together party on Sunday evening, a reception by the Mayor of the City of Vienna, an excursion to Burgenland ending with a conference dinner at the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt.

The conference excursion is scheduled on Wednesday, September 20. We will guide you through local parts of Burgenland (a province in Austria near Hungary) and stop over in Eisenstadt, which is the capital city of Burgenland. The dinner in the evening will take place in Esterházy Palace, accompanied by a concert of a string quartet. The estimated arrival back to Vienna is planned for 11pm.

Some details about Esterházy Palace:
Esterházy Palace ranks as the most prominent cultural monument and landmark in the Province of Burgenland. Its origins can be traced back to a 13th-century gothic fortress which passed into the ownership of the Esterházy family in 1649. Under Prince Esterházy Paul I the estate was converted into a baroque castle which remained the principal residence and centre of administration of the family for over 300 years. Its historical significance as the hub of social, cultural and political affairs in the former Hungarian Kingdom may be ascribed to its geographical situation, forming a point of intersection between Eastern and Western Europe.
More details can be found at the official homepage of the palace.

A guided tour through Vienna will be organized for accompanying persons at the time of the official conference sessions.
